Anatomy of a Great Stay-and-Play Package

Not all stay-and-play packages are created equal. Here's what to look for — and the five red flags that signal an overpriced bundle.

Stay-and-play packages are the most common way to book golf+casino resort trips, and they typically save 15–25% over booking components separately. But a bad package can actually cost more than DIY. Here's how to spot the difference.

What a Good Package Includes

  • Golf rounds: At least one per day of stay, plus cart and range balls
  • Accommodations: Same room category you'd book direct
  • Resort credit: $25–$50/day toward dining, spa, or gaming
  • Tax and resort fees: Included, not extra
  • Tee time window: Flexible times within the stay, not forced early slots

Five Red Flags

  1. 1. "Starting from" rates with no availability — If the advertised price never actually appears when you search dates, the package is a loss leader. Call the resort directly.

2. Mandatory dining credits at one restaurant — If your credit is locked to the steakhouse, you're paying for inflated menu prices. Look for flexible credit.

3. Early tee times forced — 6:30am in December is a red flag. Packages should offer tee times from 7:30am to 2pm.

4. No caddie option on caddie courses — If the resort offers caddies on their main course, a good package includes forecaddie fees or makes them optional add-ons.

5. Blackout dates buried in fine print — Check the calendar before booking. Holiday weekends, major tournaments, and convention weeks are often excluded.

Pricing Benchmarks

For a 3-night, 3-round package including room and basic credits:

  • Budget: $600–$1,000/person (tribal casinos, non-Strip)
  • Mid-range: $1,200–$1,800/person (destination resorts off-peak)
  • Premium: $2,000–$3,500/person (Wynn, Greenbrier, Nemacolin peak)
  • Ultra-luxury: $4,000+/person (Ocean Club at Atlantis, private jet add-ons)

When to Avoid Packages

If you have significant casino loyalty status (Diamond at Caesars, Noir at MGM, etc.), the comp room value plus preferred golf access often beats any public package. Always compare direct comp offers to package pricing before booking.
