Best Time to Book a Golf and Casino Getaway

When you book matters as much as where. Here's the month-by-month cheat sheet for golf and casino resort pricing across every major US region.

The cheapest months to book a golf and casino vacation are January–February (everywhere except Florida and Arizona) and September–October. Booking shoulder season instead of peak can cut your total trip cost 40% or more for essentially the same experience.

Desert Southwest

Peak season runs October through April when temperatures hit the sweet spot of 70°F–85°F. Wynn Las Vegas, Casino Del Sol, and Sandia all charge their highest rates during this window.

Off-peak (June–August) is brutally hot — 100°F+ daily. But twilight rounds drop to $49–$99 even at top properties, and casino loyalty offers fill the rooms with comp stays. If you can play 6am–9am or 6pm–9pm, off-peak Las Vegas is the best dollar-for-dollar trip in golf.

Southeast Gulf

The Mississippi Gulf Coast and Lake Charles run premium November–March when humidity drops and temperatures sit at 60°F–75°F. Beau Rivage's Fallen Oak (Tom Fazio, guests-only access) is at its best in February.

Summer (June–September) carries hurricane risk and humidity but Gulf casinos discount heavily to fill rooms. Combined with twilight golf, July weekends at L'Auberge Lake Charles can run 50% under peak.

Northeast

May through October is full golf season. Turning Stone, Foxwoods, and The Greenbrier all charge peak rates during this window.

The Greenbrier and Nemacolin run excellent fall foliage packages October–early November — peak beauty (autumn in the Alleghenies) with shoulder pricing.

Winter (December–March) is casino-only travel for Northeast resorts. Properties like Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods stay open year-round but golf closes.

Caribbean

Baha Mar, Atlantis, Hilton Ponce, and Catalonia Bavaro charge peak rates December through April when North American snowbirds arrive. Hurricane season (June–November) is technically the value window, but most travelers avoid August–October due to storm risk.

Best Caribbean value: mid-May to early June — peak weather, end-of-peak pricing, low storm risk.

Midwest + Plains

French Lick (IN), Mystic Lake (MN), Belterra (IN), Riverside Casino (IA) — all run peak June through September. Winter is dead season for golf, but the casinos run promotions to fill rooms.

French Lick is the rare Midwest exception — open year-round with heated indoor amenities and a small-but-functional casino during winter weekends.

Booking Windows

  • Peak season: book 90–120 days out for best price
  • Shoulder: book 30–45 days out
  • Off-peak: book 7–14 days out — last-minute cancellation deals are common

Avoid These Weeks

  • Super Bowl week (early February) — Las Vegas inflated
  • March Madness opening weekend — Vegas, Atlantic City
  • Masters week (early April) — Southeast properties
  • Major conventions — CES, SEMA, Black Hat (all Las Vegas)
  • Holidays — Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's everywhere
  • Spring Break (mid-March) — Southeast and Caribbean
